As part of the DECC study, ABS Group were engagaed to carry out an independent verirfication of the design and installation of Sea Breeze.  

In conclusion of this work, ABS Group issued its certification of the design basis for Ocean Resource's  innovative Sea Breeze Gravity "float-out-and-sink" offshore wind turbine foundation system. ABS Group issued its certification in accordance with the relevant standards, including IEC 61400 and the ABS Guide for Bottom-founded Offshore Wind Turbine Installations published by ABS Group's parent organization, American Bureau of Shipping.

November 2015

Ocean Resource are pleased to report that the £480,000 project to de-risk Sea Breeze, partly funded by DECC, is now complete.  During this project, Sea Breeze was updated for 6MW to 10MW WTGs and the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE) was reassessed.   It can now be confirmed that the LCOE reduction by using Sea Breeze is >11%. 

This project has demonstrated that Sea Breeze is ready for full scale production and

Based on their long history of tension leg buoys, recent further work carried out by Ocean Resource on its Ocean Breeze floating offshore wind foundation has concluded that the design offers the lowest cost for a floating WTG foundation.  

Other designs that have been demonstrated use far more steel / concrete and the installation process requires more expensive vessels.  Ocean Resource has optimised the design and installation process to make this as low cost as possible.
